Reliable Tree Diagnostics for Fuquay-Varina, Apex, Cary, NC & Beyond

Trees are crucial for our environment, as they release oxygen into the air. This is the same oxygen that you breathe in every day. They provide a variety of benefits for the environment including shade to cool down the area and homes for wildlife. In order to maintain a quality ecosystem, trees must stay healthy. But just like people, trees can get sick. Some of the main causes of tree diseases are pathogens and insect attacks. When a tree has been attacked by an insect, it’s vulnerable to pathogens like fungi. These pathogens cause a variety of diseases including sudden oak death, brown spot, lead blister, pitch canker, little leaf disease, annosus root rot, oak wilt, and many others. Sick trees are at risk of dying and spreading diseases to healthy plant life. Diseased or damaged trees will need to be evaluated by an arborist. They will be able to determine what type of tree service is necessary to keep your landscape looking and feeling healthy.

At Mr. Greenjeans Tree Service, we have years of experience in diagnosing and treating tree diseases across Holly Springs, Willow Spring, Angier, Fuquay-Varina, Apex, Cary, NC and the surrounding communities. In some cases, we're able to save the tree.

Signs of Diseased or Damaged Trees:

There are various signs that a tree has become diseased or damaged. Noticing the signs is key to maintaining a healthy tree. Check out the following section to gain a better understanding of some of the signs of tree disease and damage.

Trunk

The trunk is one of the main components of the tree’s structure. If large sections of the tree’s bark are peeling away from the trunk, there might be a deeper problem. Any signs of rot on or around the tree could mean the tree is already dying. A rotting tree will require a tree removal service to prevent it from falling on anyone or damaging property.

Branches

Generally, trees that have an abundant amount of dead branches are suffering from a disease. In the spring, trees should have buds on their branches. In other seasons, the branches should be full of new leaves. Some types of diseases will cause the tree to lose its leaves. Branches that appear brittle and break easily are dead. Flexible branches mean it’s still alive. Having dead branches doesn’t always mean a tree is dying. Hiring an arborist to inspect the tree is the only way to determine the cause of the dead branches.

Leaves

A tree that’s lost a large number of leaves could be suffering from a disease. Trees lose leaves all the time, making it hard to determine if it’s diseased or not. An arborist will be able to evaluate the leaf loss and determine the cause. Without the proper care, the tree might not sprout new buds and could die.

Roots

Mushrooms growing around the base of the tree is a sign of rotting. Roots that have lifted from the ground cause the tree to become destabilized. In some cases, a tree removal is necessary to prevent the tree from falling and causing harm.

Insects

While insects and trees share the same living space, an abundant amount of insects on the tree could mean a deeper issue. There are various types of insects that attack trees such as gypsy moths, pine webworms, bagworms, southern pine beetles, sirex woodwasps, tip moths, aphids, balsam woolly adelgid, and many others. These bugs tend to attack dying trees. Tree removal is necessary to prevent the insects from attacking any surrounding healthy plant life. Though these pests are harmful to trees, there are a number of other insects that feed on and paralyze these unwanted guests. These insects benefit the environment by keeping the tree-damaging pest population in check. Some of these beneficial insects include checkered clerid beetles, ladybugs, derodontid beetles, smoky-winger beetle-bandits, and nematode parasites.
